Our purpose is to engage our community in ways that increase our capacity to cooperate and take regular, unified action based on the fundamentally human qualities of character.
On Sept 6, 2022, the Mayor and City Council unanimously proclaimed Bullhead City, AZ as a Golden Rule City urging all its citizens, businesses, public and private agencies, religious and educational institutions to operate under the principles of kindness, empathy, equality, respect, justice, and civility. Naming ourselves a principal-based community is essential, but not enough. Our Colorado River Women’s Council Committee is in place to further projects that translate these noble words into action.
Although, our organization did not produce this video, it explains how we see kindness working in our community:

Now that we are heading into fall and winter, it's time to update our community on the summer "Caught Being Kind" initiative. BHC SAINT participated in our summer initiative and did not disappoint. Here are a few of their stories:
*** On 8/2/23 when temps were in the 120's Erika (and myself) among dozens of other people were following a post on FB from a young lady who was trying to find anyone to help her and her dog with water and dog food. She said she was homeless and they were in a desperate situation and in Fort Mohave where they had been kicked out of the place they were staying with friends. Erika was driving and saw them on the street. So she immediately stopped because she recognized the dog from the post. She asked if she was the person posting on FB. When she said yes, Erika went home, grabbed a sleeping bag, tent and dog food. By then someone has stopped and given them water. She then drove back to the corner, picked them up (woman, dog and now her boyfriend) and asked where she could drop them to get out of the heat - they said Bullhead City. So she drove them close to the park so they could be able to camp down by the river and stay cool. She also discovered that not only were the couple and dog in a sad desperate situation, but the woman was pregnant on top of it. This act of kindness blew me away.
*** A gentleman was in the booth next to ours at the Adoption Event and fundraiser by Larry the Candy Man that was held at the Treasure Mall 8/26 & 8/27. He saw me fanning myself at the booth (kinda hot in the building that morning) so he turned his fan that he had going in his booth towards ours. So sweet - he said he wanted me to be comfortable....plus was worried the dogs would be too hot too!
*** Penny, a woman who lives in Kingman and donates her own money to an account at Humane Society of Mohave County Animal Medical Center, for people who need to spay/neuter or need medical for their pets and cannot afford - they can tap into that balance that she keeps replenishing, had posted that anyone who has used E-Collars and wants to donate, Should contact her. This way it will save some money since she's charged $15 per e-collar after surgeries. When a gentlememan read that, he ordered what looked to be dozens of new e-collars off Amazon and all different sizes and types and asked me to deliver to her when I saw her. She was coming to our Bingo fundraiser that evening, so I gave them to her on his behalf. Very helpful since she pays for so many animals to be spay/neutered - all because she wants to make a difference!
We started our summer “Caught Being Kind” program with a wonderful organization, BHC SAINT.
They are a foster dog facilitator that has done great things for our canine friends here in BHC.
Thank Tammy Bucker-Recksiek for making it happen.
Look at Irene Watts with a big smile, in the heat and helping spread kindness while assisting in Church Food Drive!
